A few years ago, I visited a friend in Budapest, Hungary. As we were strolling around, he found a brooch someone had lost on the street and gave it to me. The design looked familiar, I turned it around, there was an inscription on the backside: "Copy of a Viking jewel. Original from 1090 AD. Oslo, Norway." Coolest coincidence ever, right?
Ever since, I've always looked at it as a treasure, a lucky charm. A year later, I moved back to Norway, learned to speak Norwegian and then started working as a tourist guide. One of the museums I work at is the Viking Ship Museum. One day, as I went through the gift shop, I noticed something familiar in the window... the brooch.
