Be my guest... Ashley.

Hello there! My name is Ashley, I blog over at That is All, and I love Adeline.

She and I actually have a lot in common - the love of dolls (ok, ok...maybe counting Domo as a doll is stretching it), the love of photography, the love of makeup, the love of pretty clothes...

It’s actually the love of clothes that I want to talk about today. Well, let me be more specific - it’s the love of getting rid of clothes.

I know what you are thinking - craziness! But one of the greatest gifts that Adeline gave me was this post about her wardrobe detox. It totally spurred me into my own closet purge.

In addition to Adeline’s tips, I’d like to share some of my own...

1. ROYGBIV: If you talk to my family they may try to convince you that I have some OCD tendencies. True or not, my closet is arranged by colors. It honestly makes picking outfits fun. Try it!

2. Identify Your Weakness. Do you have tons of floral dresses? A plethora of striped tops? Way too many bow ties? The first step is to identify this. I’ll give you an example - my weakness is pretty shoes. Now that I’m armed with this information the next time I’m running through Nordstroms and see “the pair” I can remember the ungodly amount of shoes I already own. Now, I’m not perfect and there is still a chance I may buy the shoes, so I found some good storage that gets my shoes off the floor.

3. No More Hangers. After I followed Adeline’s instructions, and my closet was filled with only things I wear and love, I gave away ALL my extra hangers. I made a promise to myself that I would buy no more hangers. So if I bring home a super cute top, guess what? That’s right - something has to go from my closet so I will have room.

I got rid of more than half my wardrobe, but I honestly feel like I have more to wear. Sometimes the universe is crazy like that. ;)

That is all.

  1. Been through a wardrobe detox of my own, threw out lots and lots of items.
Not sure yet what my weakness is, but that might be because I have a few... I'll think about it though, nice tip!

  2. I try and clean out my wardrobe once every 6 months and it amazes me how much I get rid of each time. I really want to have a wardrobe where I really love everything and only have to have little purges, its a work in progress.

  3. I love this new perspective on your closet! I just moved from one place to another, and that's the best way to convince yourself to get rid of the items you don't use! I normally arrange my clothes by sleeve length so that I can see them, but I really like the ROYGBIV idea! Sounds like I have a new project for tonight :)

  4. I also LOVE to get rid of clothes. It is such a rush, exhilarating feeling to be able to part with something. I stopped hoarding clothes when I came back from 3 years of traveling. The full closet and dressers (yes, two dressers to myself) seemed to add heaviness in my life. Since then, I part with clothes I don't wear or made a mistake buying. It happens. I consign most of it. Sometimes, clothes are too good to give away... And I do deed the money to replace the pieces I parted with. I also have been sorting my closet and my daughter's by color after working in a consignment store that did the same... Manic or not; it's a great way to organize!

  5. And also... on the weakness topic: mine is definitely striped clothing. I own already too many striped white and navy/black pieces. Dresses, shirts, tees, tanks. But thankfully, my wallet keeps me from spending too much money on cute shoes. So I have one pair of black pumps, one pair of sandals, one pair of Tom's, one pair of Wellies, one pair riding boots... and only one pair of flip-flops and running shoes. This sounds like a sad collection!

  6. great guest post! love the tips & pictures : )

lovin' lady croissant - i'm your newest follower

  7. my clothes are all in colour order as well!
and that is a lovely set of shoes you have there ashley :)

  8. I really really need to do this. Can I just hire you? I love the hanger line of thinking.

  9. great tips! and I'm seriously going to buy a bunch of nice plastic hangers and then throw away my extras. something about mismatched random hangers all over the place drives me CRAZY.

  10. Ashley, I'm pretty sure you should have given away your unwanted clothing on your blog. I'm sure your "rejects" are even beautiful. :)

  11. I did the detox challenge for moving house and it is so refreshing! there were things in my wardrobe that I hadn't worn for a year or so, and i thought: if i haven't worn it in the last 6 months, it's out. Thanks for the tips! I am now going to identify my weakness and try my best to not splurge!
