A Trivial Guide To Prettiness - Part Three

Dear Nikki
remember when you asked if I could post
an updated beauty routine?
I know I know: it was two months ago...
but here you are darling!

• Cleanse, Exfoliate, Moisturise & All That Jazz.

I'd rather sleep than using time to get ready in the morning. Let it be said: I am not a morning bird. So my beauty routine is the same pretty much every single day, the only variable is Step Seven and Step Eight.

• In the morning: I wash my face with cold water then use Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer.
• In the evening: honey as a make-up remover because it kicks ass. [I wrote about it here] and then Kiehl's Powerful Strenght Line-Reducing Concentrate & Line Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate.
• Once a week: MAC Volcano Ash Exfoliator.
• I stopped using shampoo a long time ago and I'm very happy about this decision. You should give it a try. [I wrote about it here]

• One, Two, Three, Pretty!

Ok, so that's how it goes:

• Step One - Primer
Either Benefit's Porefessional or MAC's Prep + Prime Fix +. They're both quite pricey but it takes me months to use them up and they do make a big difference when it comes to applying foundation or making sure your face stays on the whole day.

• Step Two - Foundation
I've tried so many foundations over the years. But this is it: MAC's Studio Fix Fluid and me forever.

• Step Three - Setting Powder
• Step Four - Concealer
Yep, I do my concealer after applying foundation and powder and it makes a big difference. Don't ask me why. I use either Benefit's Erase Paste (which I have shared feelings about, it's a bit of a pain in the ass to apply, isn't it?) or MAC's Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly which isn't a concealer per se but works wonders.

• Step Five - Blush
Blush is my weakness and at some point in time, I had no less than seven blushes in my drawer. How many shades of pink can your cheeks need? The blush situation has since then improved. My go-to is MAC's Powder Blush in Well Dressed but I also love Stila Custom Colour Blush in Pink and Daphne Guinness for MAC's Blush Ombre in Vintage Grape.

AND the main novelty this year is that I finally invested in good make-up brushes. Hooray! I bought mine from Real Techniques and man, I had no idea it could make such a big difference! The Expert Face Brush for foundation, the Powder Brush for powder (duh!) and the Stippling Brush for blush. These three brushes are my new best friends. Treat yourself and go get them!

• Smile & Wink.

• Step Six - Eyes
That hasn't changed for years:
♡ Mascara: Estée Lauder's Double Wear
♡ Eye Liner: Lancôme's Art Liner
♡ Brow Liner: MAC's Spiked

• Step Seven - Lips
Favourite brands: NARS, MAC, Lancôme's Rouge in Love & Lime Crime.
Favourite colour at the moment: MAC's Flat Out Fabulous

• Step Eight - Nails
One of my friends introduced me to YSL's Laque Couture and I'm sold! The colours are gorgeous and combined with the base which also serves as a top coat, it lasts for a entire week!

That's it!
You know pretty much everything about my face now.

  1. what a timely post, adeline. i really enjoyed reading about your morning makeup routine! i just added a couple of products to my ritual. in addition to moisturizer, blush, and lipstick, i'm now using a beauty balm. have you heard of this? beauty balms are all-in-one products: moisturizer, concealer, and foundation. i use the one by neutrogena and so far so good. it does a pretty good job of evening out my skin.

thanks for sharing links! i'm especially intrigued by the mac volcano ash exfoliator and the custom colour blush in pink. i have a weakness for blush. my current fave is blushbaby by mac. oh, and one more thing. i just got candy yum yum. i know, i know, this color's been out for a few years now... and i LOVE it! it's a really fun pop color.

  2. Candy Yum Yum is such a fun color! It's on my wishlist! xxx
