Share 20 things that make you ... you .

Bianca posted this on Instagram and I couldn't help but share it, along with my own list. Bianca is my favourite penpal and a wonderful soul. And any attempt to use social media to share something that meaningful should be celebrated. Here's to you being yourself Bianca! Kudos!

20 things that make you you:

• I have a blue eye and a brown eye.
• I was school president of my high school.
• My dad died of a heroin overdose when I was 10.
• I would like to be a professional illustrator and a teacher one day. I don't mind if I don't make a lot of money doing it.
• I moved out of home when I was 16. I was homeless for part of my last two years of high school.
• I graduate university in two months with a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts.
• My year advisor took me to see Def Leppard in concert on the last day of my HSC.
• My middle name is Robin.
• I have been a vegetarian for almost 15 years
• My husband is 10 years my senior.
• I have suffered from debilitating anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember, but I think I am generally a happy, optimistic and positive person (I had a boyfriend who told me "You smile too much")
• I don't think I will ever get a tattoo.
• I have 4 cats. I am allergic to cats.
• I like to sing and sometimes I write songs.
• I have never smoked a cigarette and I don't drink alcohol (I just don't like the taste/effects)
• I've never left Australia but Iceland, The Netherlands, Japan, Scotland & New Zealand are at the top of my some-day travel list.
• I got married when I was 22. I found out I was pregnant 3 months later. #babyjagoe was a total surprise (and took me a long time to come to terms with, I still am!)
• My natural hair colour is light blonde but I dye it black and I think I always will, I feel more myself this way.
• I grew up in the bush in NSW and though my childhood was not idyllic, I am very appreciative of the experiences I had.
• I love the colour red and I feel happier and more like myself when I wear it.

and 20 things that make me me:

• I'm very short-sighted.
• There is a disco ball hanging in my kitchen.
• My dad died of lung cancer when I was 13.
• I'm not interested in owning my own place, I'd rather spend my money on travels.
• I never sleep as well as when I sleep in my old bed, home in France. My great grandfather was a carpenter and made that bed and it's magic.
• I have a Master Degree in Political History.
• I love going to concerts or to the movies by myself.
• I don't have a middle name.
• I'm an atheist.
• I have been working on becoming a minimalist for three years and it's more difficult than I expected as we're constantly told to consume.
• My mom is a superhero.
• I have three tattoos and I'm saving for my fourth one.
• Truth is I don't really like pets.
• I talk to my plants.
• I have never smoked a cigarette because smoking is stupid.
• I speak Italian even though I've never been to Italy.
• I take cold showers.
• My natural hair is very curly. I've had it short (and straight) for 6 years.
• I draw a star next to my eye every single morning and I've been doing so for nine years.
• I love the colour pink and I feel happier and more like myself when I wear it.

  1. aw, this was lovely to see this morning when i opened up my computer!

i didn't know about your dad, i'm sorry to hear that your dad passed away when you were young too.
i too am an atheist, hoorah! i really admire your minimalist tendencies - i tend to be a bit of a maximist (is that a word?) but i wish i could downsize and live more simply. i think i put roots down somewhere and things just attach themselves to me.

i never knew your hair was curly! i have the straightest hair on earth and have always wanted curly hair. my husband has the most beautiful long curly hair and i am immensely jealous.

i think it is so cool you draw a star next to your eye every day and i love that pink is your happy colour.

you are one of my favourite internet people adeline!

  2. Oh man I loved this post on Bianca's instagram too! I'm glad you did it. I would like to know how the star wearing came about? I'm really curious. And finally someone who doesn't really like pets either!! If I lived in a house and my significant other wanted a cat I'd eventually say yes to it...but never ever in a flat.
